Eagle Rising Nonprofit Vision, Survival, and Adaptability
|
Eagle rising nonprofits was originally started as a reponse to
9/11, its analysis and activity resulted in awareness of modern
societies destructive trends towards indigenous cultures and
the environment. It is now clear to most facilitators and world
leaders that there is a looming crisis. We are about to
experience a massive environmental shift, there is still a
debate on how fast it will take. In addition, the population of
earth is starting to hit a critical mass. Spite the near term
catastrophes that we face, human kind has always rebounded
and adapted to new situations. Civilizations have been wiped
out by plagues, militant hordes, depletion of resources, and etc.
since antiquity. Never less, humanity has been fortunate to
give birth to its civilization during a very stable point in Earth’s
history. Our civilization has developed with minimum
interference from asteroids impacts, volcanic activity, and
chaotic unprecedented evolutional advancements. Evolutional
advancements such as the symbiotic incorporation of the
bacteria cell (mitochondria) into the eukaryote cell or the
development of multicellular organisms could have been
disastrous during our evolutionary development. Such periodic
pivotal evolution jumps could mean that humankind could face
another real extinction event of the natural sort. For now, let’s
consider manmade extinctions or near extinctions.
The most common potential cause of potential extinction to
humankind that comes to peoples’ minds is the nuclear
weapon. About 70 years ago there was only one nation on earth
that had the ability to develop nuclear weapons. Now there are
over 12 nations that have nuclear weapons or have the
technological level to develop them rapidly. This figure will
grow exponentially in the next hundred years to the point that it
would be within the possibility for most nations to develop
them and even private groups. It may even be likely that private
groups would wish to wield the power of a nuclear weapon in
order to have the power of a state or nation. Once nuclear
weapons have entered the hands of so many world players it is
likely that they will be used for some reason or another.
Furthermore, if there is escalation of nuclear proliferation and
development, than there would surely be escalation in the use
of such weapons on people. Whatever the consequences of the
use of nuclear weapons, it would probably only be a near
extinction event for humankind. Humanity would likely survive
and repair civilization in the aftermath. This does not mean that
humankind should not take preparatory measures to save as
much of the population as possible or preserve the
technological advancements that we have striven so hard for.
The next possible extinction threat to humanity is a biological
plague. This could have artificial or natural origins. This most
likely would not be a terminal extinction event unless the form
of the spreading disease has made such a evolutionary step
that it can not be quarantined or can out compete with all
current life forms. In the event that the new life form can out
compete life forms, much the same as the when new
eukaryotes with their new mitochondria outcompeted many
other eukaryotes, there would be major repercussions for all
life forms. An artificial origin could happen via an accident from
industrial development of molecular or nanotechnology or a
purposeful terrorist attack. It could happen even if 99.9% of all
nanotechnology developments are benign. Such a terrorist
attack may even be a miscalculation on the terrorist’s overall
agenda. Anyway, we are left to total speculation, and even
more so for what might trigger an unprecedented evolution leap
in nature, if not caused by mankind. It is possible that
humankind will face a plague of disastrous consequences in the
future, but will it be the one that has the potential to wipe us
out or create gigantic evolutionary leap. Either way, the people
of this earth should consider that a manmade danger is
beginning to develop into an era were the next greatest
pestilence may be homemade. This is partially due to the rapid
advancement of biotechnology in the world. Such a weapon may
even be cheaper then a nuclear weapon and deliver a much
greater threat. This makes these kinds of weapons attractive to
many future world players, including non state groups,
dictators, and small nations under the threat of larger ones.
There are other possible potential extinction events that
humankind may face in the future such asteroid impacts.
However, based on human nature and current observation
technology, they are probably less predictable then manmade
extinction threats. Even though Global warming is an extensive
threat to the human population through ecosystem alteration,
starvation, and losing valuable land needed most by the huge
populations that they serve, it is not very likely to pose as a
potential extinction threat unless it unleashes a devastating
evolutionary step that humankind cant survive or causes an
escalation of war leading to the development and use of
extinction threat potential weapons and technology. There is
one thing to remember for all those that doubt an extinction
event can occur, “Extinct species don’t remember their
extinction, and each extinction of a species was an
unprecedented event.” We are most likely facing near term
major catastrophes and near extinction events. Is it possible to
survive these events in comfort, part of a civilization, and
keeping democratic values without losing everything to chaos
and carnage? Later I will discuss a few possibilities for
surviving near extinction events in style in order to save the
most lives and preserve liberty and democratic values. Though
these ideals are still not perfect, we have worked to hard and
sacrificed too much to require these human ideals to take one
step backwards. We most be prepared for the worst, without
losing our quality of life.
Since 99% percent of all species go extinct, it is very likely
that humanity will also go extinct too. Are we near our shelve
life? Almost all questions asked about this are totally
unanswered. However, there is only few ways in which we may
survive that have been brought to extend our natural shelve life.
We may have the option to evolve naturally or artificially. This
might depend upon whether we have to evolve artificially to
meet an artificially made catastrophe or not. If we are in a
position were evolving naturally is our only option, we are
going to need the ability to go back and live the way our
indigenous ancestors lived. This is also one of the reasons why
Eagle Rising has taken such an interest in indigenous tribes
and their life styles. They are our last links back to evolving
naturally and there is becoming fatalistically very few left with
knowledge necessary to transcend certain evolutionary events.
I personally like choices, but if we do not carry the knowledge
of our ancestors with us we will only have one choice, and that
is the artificial evolutionary step. Either way this leaves
humanity with several choices.
Depending upon the extinction threat, space travel might be a
viable safeguard or alternative for some people. This maybe our
only solution to an asteroid threat, loss of sun (too far in the
future to be considered a topic of discussion), or earth becomes
inhabitable because of an artificial misshape on earth such as
nanotechnology. Space may even be an alternative for people
who want to evolve artificially and have brought it upon
themselves to leave the planet to the people who want to
evolve naturally. There is still the philosophical question,
“should we cease to exist with the planet or life?”
There is one more possible solution to manmade technological
misshapes. Humankind could take the responsibility to stop
developing technology. However, the likely outcome of this
would be resentment, black-market development, and serious
philosophical debates which would probably lead to the fact
that technology has done quite a bit in order to create a certain
type of equality in the world. Humans probably made
technology our destiny when we started creating tools and
controlling fire. We should never become too arrogant to
remember that many life forms still develop complex structures
such bee hives, beaver dams, and etc..
