GREATER ARIZONA
PREPARATION  PROJECT
PROGRESS REPORT
05/18/08
The reason we started this project is that a few of us had thought that we would be a
part of another survival group that we found listed on MeetUp.com for Arizona. Tim
Guiney had been a member since ’04 as the group had gone through several different
formations, but each time the owner of the group did not follow through and it was still-
born. Finally, one individual decided to take the project over. He joined this new group
when it was formed in Sept ’07. After several false starts, an actual meet-up was planned
for mid Oct, ’07. There were only a handful of people there for the meeting, and it was very
clear that a few of those in attendance had already decided how things were going to be
done. It was very heavy-handed and not what we were looking for, but it was a start.
When a bunch of us were given bad directions to the next event, we decided that if we
wanted to do things right then we should do them ourselves. So, through a series of phone
calls a core group was formed of about 7 people to begin to formulate a plan to establish a
survival group. As we met over the phone, we weeded out several people who were not
stable enough to be a part of the plan that was beginning to emerge.
It became clear that putting a bunch of stuff in the car and in backpacks was not the
best way to go, and was not going to provide for any family’s survival in the long run. So the
group began to look at other options, and an idea was born that not only was it possible to
survive a catastrophic disaster given the right circumstances, but it was possible to place a
group of people in circumstances that would also provide for their needs on a permanent
basis. So the concept of Mesa Butte Ranch was developed. As this concept was further
refined by many, many people and meetings, it developed to the point that it is today.
As this chronology is being written, MB Properties, Inc  is about to be incorporated, and a
stockholders meeting to be set to elect the Board of Directors, who will then elect the
Corporate Officers. As of this date we are recruiting the initial stockholders, we have
written the Articles of Incorporation, and started the By-Laws of the corporation. At this
point the corporation needs to bring in more people to spread the work load around.
We have finished the dwelling unit‘s floor plans, the GAPP Position Paper, we have
pictures of the shelter and several of the properties. We are now pricing out the costs for
the dwelling unit construction, and the build-out of the Residence Halls. This part of the
project needs to be done by committee, and not just by a couple of people.
